Abstract : The motion of electrons in perturbed crystals was investigated. The research concentrated on two problems: the impurity problem in semiconductors and the dynamics of a Bloch electron in a constant electric field. In both problems the treatment was based on the kq-representation. For the impurity problem in semiconductors a significant improvement in the agreement between theory and experiment was achieved by taking into account the higher order effects in the variation of the impurity potential. The second order effect was explicitly evaluated for acceptors in Ge and an agreement with experiment was obtained. For the problem of a Bloch electron in an electric field the energy spectrum and wave functions were calculated for a finite range crystal. The oscillations of a Bloch electron in an electric field were reconsidered on the basis of the kq-representation, and it was shown that no such oscillations exist. (Author)
