Abstract : The cross section for photoionization of excited cesium atoms has been measured in a triple crossed-beam experiment, i.e., two light beams crossing a beam of cesium atoms. The beam of exciting radiation was produced by a GaAs laser or by a cesium hollow cathode discharge lamp. The beam of ionizing radiation was produced by a 250 watt mercury arc lamp and dispersed by a 1/3 meter monochromator. Preliminary results indicate that the cross section as a function photon energy decreases faster than in the recombination measurements of Mohler and Boeckner. The report also includes two separate articles on GaAs lasers and cesium masers. (Author)
