Abstract : Most theorists that have been concerned with consistency theory have made a number of assumptions about the motivation underlying their consistency models, but have not explicitly stated these assumptions. Similarly researchers have usually ignored the motivational components of their models. The paper attempts to explore the similarities and differences among the various motivational assumptions of the consistency theories, and through initial attempts at integration builds the groundwork for a theoretical and research oriented integration of conflicting views in the consistency framework.
