Abstract : The report analyzes the results of extensive measurements of in-and-down scattered radiation in the basement of a rectangular concrete structure. These measurements were made in a fallout field simulated with a circulating point source of cobalt-60 as a function of above-ground wall height and wall thickness and of the thickness of the overhead cover. The results were analyzed in terms of Effective Floor Factors, Effective Wall Factors and Effective Ceiling Factors. These factors as calculated by the Engineering Method were compared with those calculated by other investigators, and could be made in all three of the factors. A different method of calculating the far-field correction was developed for experiments in which both skyshine and in-and-down scattered radiation are measured. (Author)
