Abstract : To obtain the anatomical base on the functional reciprocity between the ventromedial hypothalamic nucleus (VMH) and the lateral hypothalamic area (LH), the cytological structure of VMH and mutual histological connections between the two were investigated in the cat. The paper deals with first, the cytoarchitecture or the VMH AND THE EXTENSION OF NEURONAL PROCESSES OF NEURONS STUDIED BY MEANS OF THE Golgi-Cox method, and second, the relationship between the VMH and LH studied by means of the silver impregnation methods of Nauta-Gygax and Fink-Heimer in order to trace degeneration after localized lesions in the brain. In addition, an optico-hypothalamic fiber connection found in the course of the present study is presented. (Author)
