Abstract : During the last two years of this project research was continued on the superconducting and electrical properties of transition metal carbides and nitrides. Perhaps the most important achievement of the period was the continued development on thin films of niobium nitride. Additional studies were continued on the electron density of states in these materials as determined by low temperature heat capacities and magnetic susceptibilities. Most of the work was focused on VC and TiC alloys. Research was also begun on augmented plane wave calculations of the electron density of states in refractory materials such as carbides, nitrides and borides. (Author)
