Abstract : The static design of solid beams of glass-reinforced plastics on independent elastic supports is examined. A static calculation method that takes into account the difference between the elastic moduli and the effect of shear is developed. The principal relations are given for the bending of beams of a material with different elastic moduli under linear tension and compression, and the differential bending equations are obtained. Angles of turn of the support sections of a single-span beam are determined. Multispan beams that rest freely on independent elastic supports are also calculated. The obtained relations and equations are extensions of those of classical structural mechanics. An example calculation is given. It is found that for beams with a given ratio, the presence of a material with two elastic moduli and shears has little effect on the bending moments. For beams with a given ratio, the effect of these factors increases, and they must be taken into account. (Author)
