Abstract : Copper specimens were explosively loaded by two different methods. The experimental results show that in one method the specimens were fractured mainly by the reflected tensile waves while in the other the specimens were essentially fractured by unreflected shock waves. The reasons for these differences are advanced. The deformation characteristics associated with the explosively loaded specimens are also reported and commented upon. (Author)
