Abstract : This paper deals with the problem of describing the effects associated with small suction or injection through a discrete point on a fully-developed viscous flow in a rigid, circular tube. General differential equations and appropriate boundary conditions describing the flow field are formulated. These general equations are then simplified by means of a nondimensionalization and ordering scheme in a manner consistent with the physical cases are considered: suction or normal injection through a discrete point; and tangential injection through a discrete point. The simplified differential equations are then solved analytically to determine the fluid velocity and pressure distributions. Based upon these solutions, the resulting secondary flows and the attenuation or axial entrance lengths for the two distinct physical cases delineated above are determined. (Author)
