Abstract : A quantitative analysis of residual salts in dried marine sediments was accomplished by reconstituting the sediment with distilled water and measuring the salinity of the resulting solution. The information obtained from these measurements provided an excellent basis for predicting the water content of the original unaltered samples. With the original salinity of the interstitial water known the water contents computed from the salt content determinations were, for all practical purposes, as accurate as the original water contents.
