Abstract : Two initial value problems are considered for the linearized equations of motion of an ocean of variable density and constant depth. The equations are cast in a dimensionless scaled form developed by the authors in a recent paper. In this form a large parameter is identified and the problems are amenable to Fourier analysis and asymptotic analysis of the resulting integral representations. (Author)
