Abstract : The purpose of this research is to quantitatively investigate the effect of heterogeneous symmetric and nonsymmetric backgrounds on the centering of a black circular measuring mark in sharp circular targets imaged in the vicinity of the fovea centralis. There are basically two types of effects to be investigated: a possible systematic bias, or loss of accuracy, resulting from lack of symmetry of the background, and a reduction in precision of the centering or pointing task resulting from heterogeneity of the target background.
