Abstract : A theoretical model based upon a reactive shock propagating into a cavitated liquid is developed. The compressed cavitation zone is taken to be in mechanical equilibrium and forms a steady-state reaction zone, terminating in a state of complete reaction. Detonation parameters computed for ethyl nitrate give a detonation velocity that is too high by approximately a factor of two. It is concluded that the equilibrium assumption is too restrictive and that nonequilibrium effects must be included in the model. (Author)
