Abstract : Data observed before and after 'separation', a sudden change in the force system, are used to estimate motion before, during and after 'separation'. Polynomial methods are used and since a single polynomial of low degree cannot reflect the physical phenomena of motion through separation three polynomials are used and chosen in such a way as to make position, velocity and acceleration continuous. This is done by assuming a constant acceleration before separation, an acceleration which is quadratic in time during separation, and another value of constant acceleration after separation. (Author)
