Abstract : The study was a short exploratory investigation to determine the relationship, is any, between fear of failure motivation and conformity behavior elicited in an adaptation of the Asch experimental paradigm. Ss were 63 (33 male and 30 female) ninth grade students in the Mifflenburg, Pa. school system. Ss evaluated paintings according to their value to society and ranked well known men according to their value to society. Finally they ranked the men in the order that they predicted their classmates would rank them. The Ss were then subjected to contrary information. A Yielding behavior measure indicates that the Fear of Failure person has a stronger tendency to yield than the low HP person. Since this study was a pilot it indicates the potential fruitfulness of a more rigidly designed study directed at the conformity/FF relationship. (Author)
