Abstract : Repetition of the same type of damage to the cable network has been established in one of the power systems in recent years. Damage has occurred exclusively in the joints, and it has been expressed by pulling of the cable conductors out of the sleeves or clamps. In certain cases, the conductors have been completely pulled out of the sleeve. Pulling has occurred both in cast iron and in lead joints. No external deformations of the lead conduits were observed during pulling in lead joints. In one case, repetition of the same damage on the same cable was noted. The depths of the damaged joints varied within significant limits. All the emergencies had a sharply expressed seasonal nature. The number of emergencies reached the maximum in January and then dropped smoothly to the end of the first half of the year. A special analysis was made of all cases of emergency situations connected with pulling of the cable conductors to discover the causes of the damage. It was found that the cause is heaving of the ground connected with freezing. The process of heaving of the ground and circumstances affecting it are described. (Author)
