Abstract : By adding one term to the Lagrangian density that governs classical electromagnetic theory via Maxwell's equations, a parameterfree nonlinear generalization can be formulated. Some properties of plane waves, wavepackets, and selffocussed beams in the resulting nonlinear vector field theory are discussed. (Author)
