Abstract : The article contains a study of the effect of electro polishing on the change in state of the surface layer of 20KhNZA steel case hardened to a depth of 0.7 to 1.1 mm, quenched and tempered to HRC 58-60 during the process of wear. It was established that the break in time and wear of electropolished surfaces under contact loads are reduced appreciably. The microhardness of electropolished surfaces increases during the break in process by comparison with the initial microhardness and also by comparison with a ground surface not subjected to electropolishing. Electropolishing of the indicated steel with improvement of the microgeometry of the operating surface creates conditions for fast break-in promotes work hardening and strengthens the surface layer of the metal, and it greatly reduces the wear of the operating surfaces of working machine parts.
