Abstract : The report describes a series of seven conferences, held between December 1966 and February 1969, which investigated the psychological factors bearing on effective job organization and design as well as other factors which might influence productivity and satisfaction. About a dozen persons attended each conference. Some individuals attended all or nearly all the conferences, others only one or two. The range of disciplines represented by the participants extended from anthropology and sociology to industrial psychology and psychiatry. One of the conferences was devoted to personnel retention research and was attended by the 'regular' participants as well as a number of Navy civilian social scientists and a group of military and other civilian participants.
