Abstract : The feasibility of using a relatively simple guidance technique and a strapdown sensor for guidance of a small tactical missile has been investigated. The principal method investigated was Dynamic Lead Guidance (DLG). Theoretical analyses were carried out to determine workable system parameters, to determine the required sensor characteristics, and to investigate the performance of DLG for sampled data input. Simulation runs were used to examine the dependence of system performance on the sensor characteristics, sampled data operation, cross-feed between channels, gyro gain, and gravity bias. Both constant velocity and maneuvering targets were simulated. Dynamic lead guidance was found to be a practical technique provided a strapdown sensor with the proper characteristics can be developed. (Author)
