Abstract : The hydrogen bubble technique was applied to visualization of the flow about the bow of a ship in waves. By means of movie frame analysis, the positions of bubbles emitted from forward areas of the bow are described as a function of speed and wave size. Relative to the keel, the bubbles are shown to sweep out wedge-shaped areas on the hull profile which expand linearly aft of the stem. (Author)
