Abstract : The paper is concerned with the problem of finding the conditions under which individual service facilities should be aggregated in order to perform a certain workload in an optimal way. This is a problem of widespread application to the many production or repair activities which are characterized by a stochastic flow of workload units through a service facility. (Author)
