Abstract : Arguments are presented suggesting that choosing as one of the coordinates, the parabolas along which vorticity decay algebraically far from any finite, two-dimensional body, one may anticipate better results in applying the method of series truncation to flow about such a body. As a test, the steady, incompressible, low Reynolds flow about a circular cylinder is analyzed starting with the Navier-Stokes equations. The results obtained for the first truncation are closer to the exact Oseen solution than first and second truncations obtained using the more usual polar coordinates. (Author)
