Abstract : To predict analytically the entrance inertia effects associated with high-speed magnetic tapes or with computer flying heads, the problem of viscous flow between a spindle and a plate moving in its own plane is considered. Numerical solutions are obtained for the complete Navier-Stokes equations. A preliminary observation is made on the inviscid dynamic pressure corresponding to the plate velocity in relation to the 'ambient' pressure for the Stokes and Reynolds flow within the gap. (Author)
