Abstract : The following studies were conducted during 1967-1970 as part of a contract on weather forecast procedures: Application of cubic spline technique to two-dimensional data fields for the purposes of objective analysis; An investigation into the mechanics of frontal instability under idealized conditions; An experiment to numerically simulate the characteristics of frontal development from a non-linear initial value point of view; A program was set up to integrate the primitive equations for precipitation forecasts on synoptic scales. This part of the investigation, however, did not proceed beyond the formulation stage of the basic model due to shortage of funds and time. (Author)
