Abstract : Single crystals of binary and ternary aluminum alloys with constituents having compositions within the commercial range, of high strength aluminum alloys were grown and their mechanical properties were characterized to provide a frame of reference for stress, corrosion and other studies of similar alloys. Each crystal was tested in tension and plots of resolved shear stress vs shear strain were made from load vs elongation curves. From these plots, the critical resolved shear stress was determined, some work hardening characteristics were established and the fracture stress was noted. (Author)
