Abstract : A method is described for investigation of friction in the system: metal A-lubricating electrolyte metal B. The emf E(f) between A and B was measured. The relation magnitude of E(g) greater than magnitude of E(t) was assumed to hold, where E(g) is the galvanic cell emf and E(t) the thermal emf. Because the lubricating properties of electrolytes are related to the time E(g) is active, an automatic system consisting of amplifier, pulse generator, and pulse counter was used to measure these time intervals. Four friction pairs A-B were examined: bronze steel 45Kh; brass steel 45Kh; bronze steel 5; brass steel 5. Na succinate and Na adipate were used as electrolytes. Their lubrication properties appeared to be different and to depend on the nature of the friction surfaces. (Author)
