Abstract : The introduction into the metallurgical industry of the method of continuous casting became possible only after the development of a stable casting process which provided stability for metallurgical production and obtaining high-grade production from castings. Research works made it possible to determine the main conditions to obtain a stable steel casting: uniform distribution of the metal while feeding it from an intermediate ladle into crystallizors; casting steel in optimum temperature ranges; providing symmetrical crystallization and forming the structure of the billets; drawing the billets at a given, and when possible, a constant rage; protecting the liquid metal from oxidation in the casting process; complete solidification of the billets according to the given condition in the zone of secondary cooling; cutting the billets with a minimum of waste of the metal; and wide mechanization and automation of work of the devices.
