Abstract : A study is performed of the process of heating of a material by a laser beam, considering the actual dependence of the electromagnetic energy flux density on time. An approximate solution is produced allowing the influence of the volmetric absorption of energy to be considered. It is demonstrated that the surface temperature rise rate depends essentially on the pulse form of the stimulating radiation, while the threshold energy causing significant destruction of the material is practically identical for pulses of various forms.
