Abstract : The paper presents an objective technique for forecasting wintertime radiation fog at Fairchild AFB, WA. Using data available by 1500LST, a technique is presented to forecast the occurrence or non-occurrence of radiation fog restricting visibility to less than two miles between 0000LST and 0800LST for the months November through February. Eight predictors were examined: five combinations showed promise; three combinations were used in this study. Predictor combinations used in this study are: Surface wind speed versus temperature-dew point temperature; temperature versus temperature - dew point temperature; and surface wind speed versus dew point temperature. Period of record used: 1952-1962. Independent sample used: 1965-1966. (Author)
