Abstract : Laboratory tests conducted with melamine- formaldehyde resin, rayon filled phenol, formaldehyde resin, and steel ball bearings indicated that the major energy losses at the start of motion of the plastic sphere was due to residual contact creep and were proportional to the stress time. A method was developed for calculating the rolling friction from creep values and instantaneous deformation of strained plastic spheres. (Author, modified-PL)
