Abstract : The theory of the interaction of surfaces during friction is analyzed, and the analysis of frictional forces, occurring with the use of diamond tools, is presented. From the point of view of the internal friction theory, the use of diamonds as effective cutting tools can be recommended, in the presence of strong absorbed films (mainly, of chemical origin), separating the contact surface between thd diamond and the material being cut. Diamond tools can also be effectively used in the presence of solid lubricants, which prevent the direct contact between the diamond metal surfaces, for example, in cutting of grey cast iron, containing graphite.
