Abstract : Experimental results of an investigation on lead sulfide detectors show that their parameters remain unchanged when the level of irradiation generated by Q-switched laser pulses is less than 0.32 J/sq cm. Although the results given in this report cover data from a single detector, tests were made on several detectors under the same conditions with similar results. Incident intensities greater than 0.32 J/sq cm produced sufficient damage in the detector to impair its performance. Laboratory tests showed that, for incident radiation intensity greater than 1.63 J/sq cm, the responsivity and detectivity of the detector decreased appreciably. (Author)
