Abstract : The (n, gamma) cross sections for neutrons on 54Fe and 58Fe have been calculated for neutron energies from 1 Kev to approximately 5 Mev. The calculation is performed using a statistical model with a theoretical final state level density at energies above the known levels. As a check on the parameters used in this level density function, the cross section for the well-measured reaction 54Fe (n, p) 54Mn was calculated, with very satisfactory results. (Author)
