Abstract : Positional information in the form of charts, target positioning data bases, and descriptions of specific installations is produced to support the navigational and target position requirements of various tactical and strategic weapon systems. An explanation of the terminology used to define the horizontal and vertical accuracy of these products is included in this report. Horizontal and vertical accuracy are described in terms of circular and linear error, respectively. The accuracy statement on a product defines relative accuracy when describing the relationship of features within the borders of a chart of within a specified area, and defines absolute accuracy when the features are evaluated with respect to a geodetic datum (geographic positions) or mean sea level (elevations). Illustrations are included to clarify these terms. (Author)
