Abstract : The objective of this program was to determine the physical and structuralproperties of mixed-modulus composite materials using combinations of graphiteand S-glass fibers with epoxy resin under static and fatigue loading conditions.The data obtained for solid laminates, tubular specimens and sandwich beamsin which the S-glass material was oriented parallel to the longitudinal axisof the specimens and the graphite fibers were oriented at plus or minus 45to the same axis, are reported. Stress-strain and S-N CURVES ARE COMPARED TOAPPROPRIATE DATA ON PURE S-glass and pure graphite material where such datacontributes to an understanding of the mixed materials performance. The dataindicates that the mixed-modulus system is compatible with the structural andfailure mode requirements of helicopter rotor blades.
