Abstract : A method for calculating absolute F-atom concentrations from ESR line strengths is described. Matrix elements, effective g values and relative intensities have been calculated for the eight ESR lines originating in the doublet P(3/2) level and for the transition in the doublet P(1/2) (404/cm) level. Cross-sections for pressure broadening ranging from 20-30 sq A are reported for the eight transitions in the doublet P(1/2). Both temperature and pressure can be accurately determined directly from the spectra. The first order rate constant for F-atom surface recombination in a 0.35 cm I.D. quartz-alumina flow tube was found. The percent F2 dissociation at the microwave discharge was found to approach the unusually large value of 100% for low F2 flows but to fall off at higher F2 flow rates. (Author)
