Abstract : An experiment was conducted to establish the effect of borocarbon surfacetreatment on the performance of high modulus graphite filaments in epoxycomposites. The shear strength was significantly superior in 18 of the 22composites of treated filaments as in otherwise identical composites ofuntreated filaments. The longitudinal tensile strength of some treatedspecimens compared favorably with the tensile of untreated filament composites.Combined superior interlaminar shear strength and comparable tensile strengthswere obtained in several treated speciments. The interlaminar shear strengthwas greater for any given processing environment at the higher temperatureof treatment. (Author, modified-PL)
