Abstract : The methods to measure ultrasonic absorption in gases optically that were developed by O. Petersen, were further developed. By measuring in argon a typic of calibration of the apparatus was obtained. As in argon, absorption measurements were conducted in nitrogen, ammonia, carbon dioxide and a mixture of carbon dioxide plus eight percent hydrogen at a fixed sound frequency and varied pressure. With the aid of theoretical considerations the results were recalculated to normal pressure and various frequencies and then discussed. The method is still capable of being improved from a measuring technical point of view. (Author)
