Abstract : One of a manager's most important leadership tools is his ability to communicate. Without effective means of transmitting ideas, desires, and directions to peers, superiors, and subordinates, the manager may find himself without positive control of his organization. The report examines the basic concepts of communication theory. It discusses the nature and purpose of communication proper and how it applies to the human speech situation. An understanding of the what, how, and why of communication will help the manager realize the importance of this important leadership device, and, hopefully, increase his desire to further his communicative skills.
