Abstract : The objective of the investigation was to evaluate the stress corrosion behavior of a new high strength aluminum alloy plate in the T6+35 hours at 325F temper. Using smooth specimens, stress corrosion tests were conducted in two different laboratory environments. No evidence of stress corrosion cracking was found in any of the test specimens. Exfoliation tests were also conducted on stepped panels which exposed different interior planes through the thickness. The material displayed excellent resistance to exfoliation corrosion. (Author)
