Abstract : Mechanochemistry is a term used to cover the field of the effects of mechanical action on macromolecules such as grinding, kneading, stirring, etc. The work begins by describing the basic principles which govern mechanochemical destruction and synthesis, emphasizing the importance of several factors (chemical nature of the treated polymer, physical state, working temperature, the applied mechanical regime, etc.). It also describes the final effect produced by the action of the external mechanical forces on the macromolecular compounds, such as lowering the molecular weight, appearance of new functional groups, modification of the conformation of macromolecular chains, changes in the hydrolysis capacity, etc.
