Abstract : A calibration device has been developed by the Harry Diamond Laboratories for handling two small radioactive gamma-ray point sources. This device is used as a basic radiation reference in calibrating a thermoluminescent dosimeter system. The sources, 2 curies of cobalt60 and 1 curie of cesium137, are stored in a lead keg mounted on castors and are string operated. Exposure at surface of lead container is 2 to 4 mR (milliroentgens) per hr. The device includes such design features as remote source handling, fail-safe operation, adequate storage shielding, simplicity of construction and operation, and minimum scatt4ring and field distortion during use. It is available for use at the HIFX facility. (Author)
