Abstract : The long-term strength of anisotropic composite materials (textolites, fiber glass, etc.) under plane stress is considered. A criterion of strength generalizing the criterion of short-term strength for such materials is proposed. The theoretical results are illustrated in the case of glassbase textolites with a polyester binder. The long-term resistance limit of this material after 100, 500, 1,000 and 10,000 workload hours is defined. In the studies of the short-term strength criterion of a number of technical materials with an ortho-gonal anisotropy of mechanical properties (textolites, layered pulp plastics, glass-base textolites, plywood, etc.) the author proposes a short-term strength criterion for complex cases of stress. The criterion is based on the widely assumed validity of modeling a layered medium by the use of a homogeneous elastic anisotropic medium. (Author, modified-PL)
