Abstract : Experimental techniques for measuring fluroescence, phophorescence and triplet quantum yields for organic molecules in rigid plastic media as a function of temperature were developed. Comprehensive sets of data were obtained for pyrene, coronene, 1,2-benzocoronene and 1,12-benzperylene. The florescence yields of 18 aromatics were observed in absorption using the new technique of nonosecond laser photolysis ane spectroscopy. The effects of H-banding were studied in several aza-aromatics. The data obtained were used to draw conclusions relevant to the theory of radiationless transitions. Finally an experimental technique for pico-second laser photolysis and spectroscopy was developed and used to observe inverse Raman spectra of several molecules and a new subnanosecond transient absorption in the dye laser molecule, Rhodamine-6G.
