Abstract : An experimental and theoretical investigation leading to the development of an advanced aerodynamic test facility is presented. The basic concept involves the acceleration of an encapsulated slug of test gas over a fixed model to obtain a very high velocity, high Reynolds number environment without the use of a preprocessed test gas. A pilot configuration utilizes a light gas launcher to accelerate the gas capsule.
