Abstract : The attenuation coefficiency has been measured by generating a third sound in a He II film coating a cylinder and observing the decay of pulses which propagate in both directions around the axis of the cylinder. Observed attenuations can be divided into three regions. The stability of multiply quantized persistent circulations was investigated by measuring the relative velocity of two third-sound waves thermally generated from two parallel aluminum strips and detected by a superconductor strip midway between them. The author concludes that persistent currents with high quantum numbers are unstable in times of the order of that of the experiment, namely 1/60 sec. (Author)
