Abstract : The paper carries results consecutive to an examination of 286 workers engaged in servicing taxi-fleet garages of the city of Moscow, whose occupational activities involved their being exposed to the effect of elevated concentrations of carbon monoxide making part of the exhaust gases. A high incidence of functional disorders implicating the central nervous system, appearing in conjunction with vegetative-vascular dysfunction and hypertensive reactions and also attended by ECG-signs of focal and diffuse myocardial changes, was noted. A high carboxyhemoglobin level in these persons served as a confirmation of the etiological role played by the carbon monoxide in the development of the said changes. (Author)
