Abstract : To maintain accurate time synchronization using the NAVSAT system, it is necessary to have precision frequency control of the satellite frequency reference. It has been suggested to effect this control by using an Incremental Phase Shift Oscillator (IPSO), but the use of such a device results in a frequency spectral output that must be filtered to be acceptable as the input for frequency multiplication to the transmitting carriers. In order to determine the characteristics of the required filter, a mathematical model of this IPSO was constructed, and the theoretical frequency spectrum was compared with the theoretical spectrum of an ideal frequency source. These results were compared for various observation times, and the comparisons were used to determine filter specifications. (Author)
