Abstract : Three species of plants were grown under three common regimes (greenhouse, growth chamber, and field conditions) and treated with sublethal applications of (2,4-dichlorophenoxy)acetic acid (2,4-D) at different stages of growth. Pretreatment environment was found to affect growth habit and herbicide response in all species. Preliminary microscopic examinations indicate a possible relation between herbicide sensitivity and cuticle thickness as modified by environment. Investigators who cross compare plant responses from different growth habitats should take such effects into consideration. (Author)
